Farm Upgrades - Fall 2011

September 12, 2011

Over the next two months there will be several areas of upgrades on the farm.  We will mark areas of concern during the changes but you are expected to keep your eyes open and avoid anything dangerous as always.  The following changes are in the works to begin immediately.

Outdoor Arena:
The area marked for the outdoor arena will be worked on this month.  In just a few weeks the area will be open for use.

Lights In the Alley:
It will take a few stages for the lights to be installed down the alley of horses.  The lights will be along the south side of the alley in line with the water spigots.  Areas for the lights will be marked off during construction and must be avoided.

Holding Pond & Holding Pens:
The area between the indoor arena and the pasture will be turned into a new holding pond for runoff water along with holding pens for animals.  This area, along with the alley leading to this area, or the areas on either side of the indoor arena are closed until further notice.

Drainage around the stables:
Working on making the runoff water from the barns flow away from barns will happen during the upgrades.  This should be finished quickly, but please watch out for open ditches during the day of construction.

Gate Opener:
With an electric gate opener it will make everyone life easier during those wonderful rainy days as will increase security.  With this, boarders will be required to meet their guests at the gate to let them in.  It will have a code assigned and only give to boarders.  This should be too much of a change since guests are required to arrive only when boarders are present.

Paddock and Shelter Upgrades:
The fronts of each paddock will be leveled out to repair the ruts caused by the horses.  After the fronts are leveled, a new slope will be built in to help maximum drainage.  The final stage of upgrades will be to close off part of the large opening near the gate for most shelters.  A full wall that is 5 feet long will be built to provide another break from the weather for the horses.  Feeders will be moved to this new wall.  This will keep the horses from causing so much damage to the ground at their shelter creating water to run into, or pool up, at the opening of the shelters.  If you wish to purchase additional rock for your paddocks, that must be purchased before October 1.  The cost is $250 for a full truck of rocks or $130 for a half truck of rocks.

Trailer Parking:
If you are on the yearly trailer parking payment plan, payment is due this month (September).  You can switch to monthly parking payment if you wish.  Contact Jessica if you need to make the change.  The trailer parking area will have some maintenance work.  During this time, trailers will be moved for one day.  1 week notice will be given in case you wish to take your trailer home for the day.  Otherwise, we will move it during the work.  Please have ball locks taken off for this day.
